May 31st 2023 10 years since Flipnote Hatena discontinued
Hello there, Hatena fans! I'm Olibiakos, also known as Patrick, Miralas 14, and Eri♥. In this blog, we're going to talk about my experience with the Nintendo DSi and Flipnote Studio because I have a lot to say about this topic.
It all started with a PSP clone called GameKing II in 2010. My dad got it for me because I was in the hospital for a week. The GameKing II is an 8-bit Chinese clone by TimeTop, and it has three games preinstalled without needing any game card.
After leaving the hospital, I bought a game card for the GameKing II and enjoyed the console for at least a few months.
When we go to Kotsovolos to buy a game for the GameKing and after showing what the game card looks like the employee asked "Is this for a GameBoy?" I answered with "yes" (obviously I didn't know what Gameboy was back then) and it said it doesn't sell any more GameBoy games
Meanwhile, on a TV commercial in Greece, I was interested in the Nintendo 3DS, specifically the glass-less 3D feature. So I thought, since my birthday is coming soon, I will buy it as a birthday gift.
On November 30th, 2011, we went to Kotsovolos to buy a Nintendo 3DS. After choosing the color between cosmic black, aqua blue, and flame red, my brother told me to buy the original Nintendo DS instead because supposedly 3D breaks your eyes (which is not true anyway). I said the DS looked old and that I didn't even have a touchscreen, but I was indeed wrong. So I bought the Nintendo DSi, which we thought at the time was the same as the Nintendo DS. After we came home from the Kotsovolos my brother was excited to unbox the Nintendo DSi then after we unboxed it at home we put the Drawn to life the next chapter to nintendo dsi itself. After powering on the system the prompted with the initial setup we set up the system with the nickname: Patrick (I m a Spongebob fan) and the Message:"eri the best" (not 100% sure) and also my favorite color Red. We played "Draw to Life the next chapter" and then discovered the rest of the system functionality DSi sound and Flipnote studio. At first, I edited some sample Flipnote like the Flipnote tips and the skateboarding cat that falls down. (Fun fact you can see on what date and time you opened the Flipnote studio for the first time by looking at the created date on option.bin or eula.txt in Flipnote studio public.sav file creation date
The next day after coming back from school I open up my Nintendo DSi and discovered a video named Nintendo DSi + Internet I was excited about the new possibilities especially Flipnote Hatena only had one problem how the hell do I get internet on the DSi this question bothered me so I found the Nintendo DSi manual go to the page that talks about the internet and I didn't understand anything also I found out that what I put a random date in set up screen was my birthday which I was able to understand because the manual was in greek. Now comes my favorite day the birthday party we ate dinner I blew out the cake candle and the first photo taken with my DSi was born.
Next, we got down to my room to play and talk I asked the question to my cousin named Christina "How to put the internet in my Nintendo DSi, the answer I got is "Nintendo DS's don't have access to the internet only the new 3DS is able to connect to the internet (I don't mean the 3DS from 2014)". After that answer, I asked them why there is an Internet option in the system settings and the answer I got from my cousin Mario is that I have to pay or something like that. Additionally, we played Drawn to Life the next chapter and we played the 2 first levels Heather's pendant lost and saved someone from Baki's.
Fast Forward to 2012, I finally got access to the internet at home I had OTE Conn-x only 4Mbps for 9.90€/Month. The internet was activated on 01/06/2012 at 17:12:25 (date found on sms backup which I don't know how it survived). After I connected to the internet on my PowerBook I was searching a video tutorial on how to connect the DSi to the internet on youtube and I still didn't understand some setup that it showed. Anyway at the end of August, I managed to connect the DSi to the internet and I downloaded 3DS System transfer on 3DS since it was free
The next day I went to my cousin Mario's house to show the new exciting Flipnote Hatena I discovered that has so many Flipnotes we liked for example the Black vs Red Guy, video clips music like Maroon 5 Payphone, KE$HA tik tok and many more. One song that stuck to my head is this song with this rhythm and has inside lyrics the word "BBQ" If anyone knows the song name please leave it down in the comments.
On September 1st I created with Mario Flipnote about a frog that gets trapped in a trash can its still funny to look at it now so take a look at it

Also on October 12, we create a Flipnote with stickman teams fighting and here it is
On October 21, we tokeed photos of Marios and my cat which we lost is a siam Cat using the Nintendo DSi some photos are taken using a different lens
On November 3rd we created a Flipnote witch 2 planes crashed
On November 5th we made a Flipnote using Mario's toy gun which was gifted by godmother with big candle for orthodox easter
On December 1st it is my second birthday with my Nintendo DSi and my first birthday with an internet connection I wanted to post something to Flipnote Hatena so I did and I remember I got 20 stars or something also I took a photo of the cake again with the Nintendo DSi
Now it's time to go to Albania for Christmas and new year but now I brought my Nintendo DSi to take photos and that's what I did. But this time we went to the new road with I saw the big globe at Albnia unforcedly I can"t upload it here because it shows a license plate of my uncle so sorry about that but here is the rest of the photos
Now we got to 2013 which was the dark area of the Nintendo DSI because of what happened. On 13th March 2013, it was announced two things by Nintendo the first one is the all-new exciting Flipnote Studio 3D also that Flipnote Hatena wil case operetion on Mau 31st 2013 and of course i was angry to the hell since I got no summer Flipnote Hatena fun.
Here is a funny story, he went to IKEA on 10th April and we got so many pencells for free because back then there were no security systems you can even get a free drink back then if you had already paid previously for a drink and so I took a photo of those pencels I got from IKEA with my DSi
Now on April 20th I and Mario made the last Flipnote I posted on Flipnote Hatena (serious art of course) both a guy fall to the sea
now on April 24th, we went a school trip, and while on the bus I played with the Nintendo 3DS of Dimitra's and saw when we arrived at the destinetion i connected to the Nintendo 3ds eshop and i was disapointed when i searched flipnote studio 3D only one video came up and is this video that showcases sample Flipnotes
And thats pety much it on march 31st it was the last day i expirenced flipnote hatena when i wake up on June 1st there was no more Flipnote Hatena insted i saw a new screen with 3 button "Flipnote Hatena end of service" "Transfering flipnotes to 3DS" and "More Hatena services".
Finaly, ending this blog post i must say that alot changed after those 10 years we thought Flipnote Studio 3D wil be big sucess and it wil be coming and on Wii U anf on NX (NX was the nintendo switch back in 2013) but Nintendo president changed and Nintendo is not the same anymore. Example of this is look at DSi, Wii and 3DS and compere it to the Nintendo Switch you wil notice that amiibo, mii's AR stuff system music and other stuffs no longer exsists or hidden deably in the system. Now lets hope Hatena wil prater with Nintendo again for the Flipnote studio on next Nintendo switch but we nead help for you share this post evrywere add stars and rare stars if you have it on your Hatena account of corse
